Horacio Coppola - Medianeras

I got stranded in Piccadilly today in the pouring rain. Went into Waterstones to pass the time and looked at a book on abstract art. Opened the book at this image and was astonished. Sometimes an image just has a massive impact and this one did that for me. The way the space has been used - it's just beautiful. I have never seen a photograph like this. Once again, it reminds me of Diebenkorn and the way he used space.

The artist is called Horacio Coppola. I have never heard of him. I then asked the man behind the counter if he had anything else by this artist/photographer. There was only one book which I bought. I cannot believe how good his images are. I have never seen anything like them. I couldn't understand why I had never heard of him. He was born in Argentina and then traveled around europe in the 20's and 30's. He studied at Bauhaus and then returned to Buenos Aires where he stayed. Because of this he isn't as well known as he might be. He was also a film maker. I'm going to publish some more of his images in future posts as they really are amazing.
